The Bangalore Assistant was a minor character in the film, Saving Private Ryan. He was one of the bangalore men in C Company of the 2nd Rangers Battalion during D-Day. He was played by stuntman Derek Lea.
He landed on Omaha Beach with the 2nd Rangers on June 6, 1944. He was able to make it to a shingle hill and provided Captain Miller some Bangalore torpedoes. While setting them up, he suddenly took a sniper shot to the head which ricocheted off his helmet, stunning him. "Lucky bastard", marveled Private Adrian Caparzo. The soldier took his helmet off to rub his head when he suddenly took another shot between the eyes, except this time without the protection of his helmet, killing him instantly.
