Private Hastings was one of the Nueville Paratroopers.
Biography
Hastings landed in Normandy with the 101st Airborne on June 6, 1944. He misdropped in the town of Neuville, and became part of Staff Sergeant Hill's men, who were commanded by Captain Fred Hamill.
When Miller's men came to the town, Hastings remarked "You guys are a site for sore eyes", before Miller told them that they weren't their relief, and were there for Private James Ryan.
He and Private Goldman were sent to go with Miller and Hill as Hill showed Miller a passage to flank the Nazis in Neuville. They came across a French family, who were trying to give them their daughter, when one of the Rangers, a man named Private Adrian Caparzo, was shot in the chest by a sniper. They all took cover, while a Ranger Sniperman named Private Daniel Jackson took out the German Sniper. However, Caparzo bled to death, and left his body under a poncho.
While they came to a small alley, Hill accidently knocked a beam into a wall, revealing a German officer and his HQ. Hastings and the others pointed their weapons at them, telling the Germans to drop their weapons, who in turn, were doing the same thing. Suddenly, the Germans were mowed down by Captain Hamill, a Lieutenant, and a man named Jimmy T.
After the rangers discovered they had a different Ryan, Hastings stayed with the others till reinforcements could come.
