Medic Irwin Wade is one of the rangers chosen by Miller to find Ryan. He is first seen on the beach at Dog Green sector trying to save a Ranger shot in the neck, and getting extremely mad when the wounded man was shot in the head. He is later on fatally wounded by a machine gun nest after Captain Miller orders them to neutralize it. He had been shot three times in the chest by an MG-42. Knowing there was no saving him, he asks his friends to overdose him on morphine, to which Miller agrees. As he is dying, he starts hallucinating and sees him mother, possibly signifying that he is heading toward the theoretical light you see after you die. His mom can be welcoming him to it. As his friends comfort him, he dies in their arms. It is one of the most emotional scenes of the movie, next to when Cpt Miller dies.
