The Kar98K ("Karabiner 98 Kurz" or "Carbine 98") is a shortened variant of the original Mauser 98 rifle that was introduced during the late 19th century. It was developed by 1935 and manufactured by the Mauser company in Germany and would later be issued to armed forces of Nazi, Germany as either a battle or sniper rifle. The weapon fires from a 5 round stripper clip of 7.92x57mm Mauser ammunition; however another can be placed already in the chamber; giving the shooter 6 rounds instead of 5.

Various German officers of the Wehrmacht and the Schutzstaffel were seen with this rifle in their hands; including Steamboat Willie. Willie used the weapon to actually shoot Captain Miller in the final battle of the film.
