Alan Michelson was a soldier who was a friend of Private James Ryan. He was wounded when a German grenade exploded near his head, which numbed his hearing.
He was escorted by Joe to Captain John H. Miller, and Joe told Miller that Michelson could not hear Miller. Michelson had to be asked question through a notepad, and he told Miller that Ryan landed near "Bumville" and a colonel gathered up Ryan and other Paratroopers to protect a bridge at Ramelle.
Michelson then proceeded to return to the rest of the marching 101st Airborne Paratroopers nearby.
