Alan Mendelsohn was a soldier who was a friend ofPrivate James Ryan . He was wounded when a German Grenade exploded near his head, which numbed his hearing. He was escorted by Joe to Captain John H. Miller , and Joe told Miller that Mendelsohn could not hear Miller. Mendelsohn had to be asked question through a notepad, and he told Miller that Ryan landed near "Bumville" and a colonel gathered up Ryan and other Paratroopers to protect a bridge atRamelle . Mendelsohn then proceeded to return to the rest of the marching 101st Airborne Paratroopers nearby.
