Private First Class Toynbe was a supporting character in the film Saving Private Ryan. He was a 101st Airborne soldier, and one of the Ramelle Paratroopers, during World War Two.

Biography

He dropped into Normandy on June 6, 1944 with the 101st airborne. He was then rounded up by a Colonel to go to the town of Ramelle. There, he and the other Paratroopers were joined by Captain John H. Miller and his Squad. He then participated at the Battle at Ramelle. During the battle, he set off a couple of detonated charges, killing and wounding a column of German SS Soldiers with the explosion and shrapnel. He later helped clear a German Panzer IV Tank with Rice, Garrity, Lyle, Weller, Gary and Wilson.

After clearing the tank, he spotted the German 20mm Flak Cannon and yelled a warning prior to the aforementioned cannon blowing apart the various tank invaders with it's deadly shells, he survived the shells and was shot in the back while retreating to the Alamo.

Trivia

There is a continuity error in the movie, during the halftrack scene, Toynbe is seen having an M1 Garand, however, during the preparation for the Battle of Ramelle, he is seen wielding an M1 Carbine, even when he is killed, he is wielding an M1 Carbine, as it was noticeable by its thin barrel.
